Golf Fundmatental 5 for beginners -Lower Body Turn

Benefits of a Proper Lower Body Turn

The lower body turn is essential for generating torque during the golf swing. When you effectively rotate and engage the large lower body muscles in your legs, along with transferring weight to your trailing leg, you create significant power for your swing.

Maximizing swing speed and distance is achievable through proper golf swing mechanics, as a strong lower body turn can greatly enhance your swing speed, resulting in more powerful shots.

Establishing balance is another crucial aspect of golf fundamentals. A proper lower body turn aids in maintaining balance throughout the golf swing, which in turn improves shot accuracy and consistency.

Hip Rotation & Weight Transfer

Hips

In golf fundamentals, the hips play a crucial role in the golf swing mechanics. As the hips rotate away from the ball, they create a shift in weight to the instep and back of the trail foot, which should remain aligned with the ankle.

The hips should rotate about 45 degrees during the swing, but it's important to ensure they do not over-rotate, as this can disrupt the lower body turn.

Check

To maintain proper golf swing mechanics, avoid any backward lateral movement of the hips.

Knee Movement

Trail Knee

In golf fundamentals, the trail knee will flex slightly and point toward the instep of the trail foot, which is crucial for proper golf swing mechanics.

Check

During the swing, the lead knee remains stable, and there should be minimal lateral backward movement. If there is excessive lifting of the lead foot, the weight shift toward the trail instep indicates an incorrect lower body turn.
